Barton Hills is a lovely, old area of Austin. The homes range from small, mid-century cottage homes to brand new ultra modern green construction. There are some very unique, fun houses from the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 70's. Some of the older houses are being torn down to make room for brand new homes and lofts and condominiums. It's a diverse area. You could find a new ultra-modern "green" home right next to "Aunt Bea's house in Mayberry." No two homes are alike. Sell your home or condo in Barton Hills now!
There are several eclectic shops in the area. You can find videos, candles, old art, old glass creations ranging from hand blown to stained glass, vintage clothing to ultra modern stores. It's a good place to walk or ride around and check out all the different places to shop.
The terrain is rolling with large, mature pecan and oak trees. There are so many beautiful nature spots here. Zilker Park and Barton Springs, with all their glory, to name a couple. There are wonderful picnic areas and places to play soccer, swim or ride the train. It's a beautiful, wonderful place to just kick back and relax. Across the street (Barton Springs Blvd.) is the Colorado River, or "Lady Bird Lake" as we call it here, and there are places to rent boats and row along the river. If THAT doesn't float your boat, there are also bike and running trails.
You are not going to go hungry here, either. There are loads of restaurants along Barton Springs. Some are chains but most are family owned, mom-and-pop family restaurants. Mexican, Barbeque, Italian, hamburgers, coffee and juice bars are everywhere. One of my favorites in Shady Grove. In my humble opininon, it's got some of the best food in town and live music outside in the spring and summer. Can't beat that!
Come check out Barton Hills! You won't regret it.
